Lets keep the train from last week going...my chips this week are: BRANNIGANS PROPER THICK CUT CRISPS; ROAST BEEF & MUSTARD. Lets start off saying that the potato portion of these are the same bomb ass chips that I described last week. At this point in time, Brannigans Proper Thick Cut Crisps in my opinion are King. That out of the way, lets move on to the flavour. When I opened the bag there appeared to be a brown powder generously covering these perfect potato chips. There was no distinct smell coming from the bag (regular potato yadda yadda). When I popped the chip in my mouth I was a little surprised. I was expecting some sort of yellow mustard type flavour..what I got was a big ol' slap of hot horseradish. These chips had more bite than Deep River Snacks Aged Cheddar Horseradish. I taste no mustard flavour at all. The horseradish lasts for a few seconds then the bite dissipates leaving a very small hint of faux beef flavouring along with potato. The 40g bag is the perfect size for this flavour, it leaves me wanting more (if it were a full size bag I might get horseradished out). I would say that Roast Beef & Mustard is a misnomer these are full on BRANNIGANS PROPER THICK CUT, HORSERADISH, CRISPS. I'm not as enthusiastic about these as I am about the Smoked Ham & Pickle but they're still pretty tasty. If you see a little purple and brown bag of 'em get your crunch on.
I like being surprised...This past fall I was reading (predominantly) troll comments on a music message board and I happened to read a sentence that mentioned The Ramones and The Rezillos in the same line. This association made the name Rezillos stick in my head. About a month later I was at Into The Music in Winnipeg, perusing the punk selection, and I came accross a 180g re-issue of Can't Stand the Rezillos. I thought "What the shit, if they're mentioned in the same breath as The Ramones it's probably worth a listen" (at this point I hadn't looked into/heard the band at all). When I got home I threw on this weighty piece of vinyl and wasn't let down one bit. This Scottish gem of a band has dual male/female vocals with varied delivery. The Rezillos unleash rocking first wave punk with new wave tendencies and energy coming out the wazoo..with just the right amount of pop. It's a damn fine record, giver a listen. To my surprise, upon listening to the Can't Stand The.. I recognized track 3. The Peacocks cover Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked in Tonight on In Without Knocking. Should it be the EU anthem? Probably.
Stay hydrated,
Marc
ps. No I haven't listened to Zero yet but it's on my albums to get. With a track record of *37 (36) between albums I figure I have time before they release another.
