Cayetana is a weird name. Anyway, earlier this year I read something about Cayetana releasing their second LP New Kind of Normal..on twitter..IG..I honestly don't know exactly where I read about it..maybe it was in Razorcake? Does it matter? Either way, the words I read made me want to check them out. I ended up heading to their Bandcamp and listening to half a song at which point I decided that I'd wait to get the album before listening any further. A couple weeks ago I finally pulled the trigger and ordered it..came in this past Thursday. Not gonna bury the lead here, this three piece delivered a killer sophomore album. Beautifully raspy emotive vocals often delivering melancholic lyrics. Very lively bass lines with an 80's effect now and then (lazy explanation..the bass at times reminds me of The Cure). Twee comes to mind along with a mix of 80's and 90's alt rock (I want to say there's a similarity to The Cranberries but I don't fully agree with that..you know what I mean?). Why I didn't listen to this band until 6 years into their existence, 1 LP 3 EPs and a spilt, is beyond me. Better late than never I guess. Time to add Nervous Like Me to my want list.
So, fairfields farm crisps are "Grown and hand cooked on our family farm Locally sourced natural flavours" in the Colne Valley. They are "Gluten Free" as chip companies really enjoy touting these days (we get it, potato chips are made of potatos). This even I cracked open a bag of Chorizo & Tomato. Odor, canned chili. Taste, weird. Crunch, average to light (for kettle cooked). If you require further explanation, they sort of taste like canned tomato soup with the odd mild bite and some spices that I can't quite put my finger on (likely the spices that are associated with chorizo, haha). The seasoning is somewhat uneven. Every once in a while there's a visibly well seasoned chip and it's those ones which lean towards chorizo..that or tomato soup that's a little off. I'm not super into these chips but I haven't stopped eating them so they can't be that bad. They're sort of an intriguing chip. The bag I have is 150g..for the flavour I'd say put them in a 80-100g bag so that they don't wear out their welcome. If you see them give em a try, they're different. Now that I'm nearing the end of the bag I think they're growing on me. Got them at Winners in the spring so I'm not going to hold my breath on seeing them again any time soon.
Stay hydrated,
Marc
ps. Like seriously, stay hydrated. Water is good for you and you probably don't drink enough of it..and if you're reading a blog about chips you probably consume an unhealthy amount of sodium. Now where's my contigo at.
