Salt & Vinegar Ruffles, what up! According to the bag "IT'S BACK FOR A LIMITED TIME". So if you're not familiar with Ruffles, they're a light to mid-weight mini ridged chip (like the ridges are 1mm or so). They're fairly uniformly yellowish white in colour. The crunch is decent considering the density of the chip and the fact that they're not kettle cooked (2 to 3x the crunch of standard flat Lays). How is the flavour you ask, well let me tell you..bangin'. The vinegar is very present (which is what I'm always looking for [not quite "extra salt and vinegar" but they're somewhere between regular and extra]), you're tongue feels it about 70g into the 220g bag. Good crunch and somewhat aggressive vinegar flavour with some nice mini ridges for dipping. Don't sleep on this, like the bag says, "LIMITED TIME".
While we're on that limited time tip, Iron Chic and Off With Their Heads are coming/coming back to Winnipeg. I do miss hearing about shows more often than not so I may be a little off here, but I don't believe Iron Chic has toured through the Canadian prairies (at all?)...very irregularly to say the least..and I for one am stoked for this one. If you've never heard of either of these bands, bummer. Iron Chic plays what I like to call posi-core. Somewhat anthemic mid-tempo fuzzy pop punk with gruff(ish) vocals and dual/gang vocals galore. They're in the Latterman/Tender Defender family with music that gives you the warm and fuzzies (maybe not necessarily the warm and fuzzies but it makes me happy). Their most recent release was in 2013's The Constant One which was one of the best 2013 had to offer..this will however only be their most recent for a couple more weeks as their Side One Dummy debut You Can't Stay Here is set for release on October 13th (shit yeah!). Off With Their Heads (at least in recent years) have toured through Winnipeg fairly regularily. They play soothing midwestern pop punk for the dejected..and basically anyone else that's into mid-tempo heartfelt punk. Gruff vocals from a human being that doesn't necessarily like himself all the time but still keeps on going..and not the biggest fan of organized religion. Ryan, the lead singer/driving force behind the band, also has the Anxious and Angry podcast (I think I've mentioned it on here before, great podcast). I'll see you at the show on November 28th at the Park Theatre (YWG).
For Canadian cities Iron Chic and OWTH are hitting up Van, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg. They're also hitting the US west coast prior to Canada then Fargo, Minneapolis, Chicago and Trenton to round out this tour. Get your tickets before it's too late.
Stay hydrated,
MARC.
