This entry's coming a little late, kind of snuck up on me so I'm going to go back to notes from this past January for the chip portion:
President's Choice Loads of Creamy Dill Pickle. They're a standard ridged chip, dippable but not overly aggressive crunch. Ridges are wavy as opposed to ruffle style mini ridges. "Not sure about 'loads of', more like generous flavour (with a good even distribution throughout the bag)" (I guess when I consumed them I was expecting a slap in the face level of seasoning). There's dill pickle tartness present but it's not aggressive..and not overly powdery like some brand's "creamy dill" tend to be. I'd put the emphasis on the Dill Pickle side of the name as opposed to Creamy. I'm not a super fan of creamy dill chips in general, these ones are okay (I need to try them again, I could see a future assessment being slightly more positive).
Luke McNeill is a major contributor to some fantastic pop punk/powerpop bands; The Copyrights, Hospital Job, Robot Bachelor and now..Starter Jackets. They just put out a full length Decisions on Rad Girlfriend Records..I have yet to listen to this album, no real reason, just haven't gotten around to it. I have however listened to their 7" Preferred Stock that came out on It's Alive Records (also Brassneck Records and Waterslide Records). Truth be told, 7"s get a lot less playtime in my house so Preferred Stock only met the needle a few times when I first got it, then slipped through the cracks for the last year or so. Luckily I was reminded of Preferred Stock while browsing my Bandcamp collection today. Starter Jackets bring anthemic earworms with choruses that get stuck in your head (who would have thought with Luke McNeill's involvement). There's melody coming out the wazoo with some nice harmonies and just enough bite to keep it interesting. Starter Jackets come at you with some real nostalgia, both through their lyrics (that are personally nostalgic) and 80's reminiscent use of a synthy keyboard. I guess it's time to go check out Decisions.
Stay hydrated,
marc
