Territories are putting out their sophomore album, the follow up to their self titled, next week. I'm not sure about you but I'm excited.
Blue Diamond Almonds, Bold (Elote) Mexican-style Street Corn eh. "Intense Taste!" you say? Blue Diamond has put out some flavoured almonds in the past that are quite alright. Will these Mexican-style Street Corn stand their ground and put up a fight? They're crunchy, like other almonds...I'm not sure if there are different ways to bake(?) almonds to change their crunch, but they're generally all the same. I'm first hit with a sweet corn flavour, drenched in butter (or something to simulate that good ol' butter flavour). There's the odd note of spice, but the corn and butter flavours are up front and centre for me. As I make my way through this tin the spice starts to build up a bit, it's a mild hot pepper..uh..heat (the forehead is not sweating). So the flavour is quite enjoyable..but how does it mesh with almond flavour? Well, the almonds overpower it a little bit, at only 36% of your daily recommended sodium per 6oz (170g) tin of almonds I would think they could jack up the seasoning by 25-30% and it would be a straight up banger. As is, they're enjoyable.
What percentage of Rancid is street punk? Like, 20%? I don't know, when does punk cross over to street punk (I know I can google, but no). Either way, Rancid's most recent album Tomorrow Never Comes is straight up punk, akin to Rancid 2000, with no ska or 'billy present. Tomorrow Never Comes puts it foot on the gas and doesn't let up for the next however many minutes the album is. Punk f'in rock. I do love me some Rancid ska and was a little disappointed to not find any on the album, but hey, I can get my ska fix somewhere else.
If you go back in this blog to 2015 you'll find me lamenting how Indestructible forward I've found Rancid albums to be meh...well it's been over 8 years since that post and I completely disagree with 20something year old Marc's assessment of post 2000 Rancid albums. Indestructible is a fantastic album and their ENTIRE output can stand toe to toe with pretty much any other band's catalogue.
Stay hydrated,
Marc
ps. I would love to see the band Mexican-style Street Korn.
