I mention It's Alive Records a lot in my tales. It's a killer label (IMHO) and has released various LP's/7"s from two of my favourite bands; The Dopamines and The Copyrights. If you actively follow the current pop punk scene you may be familiar with these bands..if you don't know either of them..well, your loss I guess? I started listening to The Copyrights with their 2008 release Learn the Hard Way (Great album). Not long after Learn the Hard Way, The Copyrights were paired with The Dopamines (my introduction to this fantastic band) on a split 7" put out by It's Alive Records in 2009 titled Songs about Fucking Up. The album jacket for SAFU is light (almost lime) green with a cartoon face of a guy not having a good time (the album title and artwork is a tribute to the Big Black's Songs About Fucking). On this split EP, both bands dole out upbeat music with lyrics that are a little bitter and/or self-deprecating (hence the EP title). Everything either of these bands has ever put out is catchy as hell, it's well written pop punk without forgetting the latter.
Today I had a lil' bag of Walkers Undeniably Pickled Onion Crisps. This is my first time having a bag of these so I was pretty excited to try them. The bag is light (almost lime) green which instinctively puts ideas of dill pickle flavour in my head. When I cracked open the bag I saw standard lays/walkers chips. I took a whiff and was welcomed by a salt & malt vinegar smell which was promising. Snatch, toss, crunch! As soon as the chip touched my tongue I was greeted with a tart (mild) vinegar burn..after a few seconds the chips turned somewhat sweet and segued into a distinct onion after-burn. I'd place the onion flavour somewhere in the green onion spectrum. The flavour to chip ratio is almost perfect if not a little on the extra flavour/seasoning side (which is absolutely fine in my books), you don't get very much potato flavour with these Oneders. A small (33g) bag of Pickled Onion crisps is fantastic; they're a unique flavour (to North America anyway) with a good amount of zing for your taste-buds. I'm not sure how this flavour would fare in a 180g, one sitting crush due to the very distinct and strong vinegar and onion flavours but as a lil' snack they are fantastic. If you get a chance go get you some.
Stay hydrated,
Marc
P.S. If only take one thing from this blog entry, Paid in Full off of The Dopamines stellar 2012 album Vices is an absolutely amazing song. Listen to this song!
