M'lady gave me a bag of Great Lakes (Potato Chip Co.) Kettle Cooked Buffalo Wing Potato Chips "Skin On" "Made in Traverse City Michigan" a couple months ago. I just cracked the bag and took a whiff..vinegar? Visually the flavour doesn't look very well distributed. I picked a semi seasoned looking chip out of the bag and yeah, not much flavour with a bit of a heat stiner. I then picked out a chip that looked well coloured (and assumed seasoned) and it was. The flavour is very much like any mass produced medium to hot mass produced buffalo hot sauce (my reference point is the three pepper President's Choice buffalo hot sauce [hot vinegar based sauce with a hint of {I think} ranch]). When you get a well seasoned chip they're quite enjoyable, nice crunch without being overly greasy for kettle cooked..but the well seasoned chips are somewhere between 5 and 10% of the bag so..take from this what you want. The seasoning distribution is similar to Uncle Ray's.
When I grabbed this bag of chips today I told myself, "Marc, the music portion of this blog will be about a Michigan artist". Initially, the only rappers off the top of my dome were Royce da 5'9" (still putting out fire albums, Layers was on point [haven't checked out Book of Ryan yet but the reviews for it are positive to say the least]) and Eminem (he still exists). Well, most people are quite aware of Royce and Em, so I googled Detroit rappers just to see if I could get a little bit of a memory jog. At the end of the populated pictures was Monoxide Child who in the picture looked like one of the new soundcloud rappers (6ix9ine et al). When I started reading his description it turns out the fella is in Twiztid. I hadn't thought of that group since Jr. High when a buddy got me to burn a mixed cd with Twiztid, ICP, etc on it (at this point I remembered, "Oh yeah, ICP are from Detroit"). I pondered, 'I wonder what Twiztid sounds like' (because I couldn't remember, strange no?) then fell into a 20 minute hole of watching Psychopathic Records psyphers from 2017 on youtube. So yeah, halfway through watching that stuff I recalled that Danny Brown was from Detroit and for some reason in the 41 rappers that came up from the search he wasn't listed. What the what. Sure, Atrocity Exhibition (IMO) wasn't quite as strong as Old (essential listening, borderline classic [I prefer it to Atrocity simply because it had more varied delivery/characters {Old was almost like watching a movie}]) but it was a damn fine album and he should have been right up there with Eminem, Royce, J Dilla, Black Milk and Big Sean in the google picture results. What up Google?
Stay hydrated,
Marc
