I can't remember how I was introduced to Rancid. I think it was either through the X Games Pro Boarder soundtrack or Punk-o-rama vol. 1. Either way, if you were lucky enough to be introduced to Rancid in the late 90's you know one thing, they were amazing. The songs were catchy without sacrificing substance and the bass lines were mind blowing. Rancid had respect and in my opinion made no missteps, that includes Rancid (2000). Since I hadn't fully experienced a new Rancid album when it was in fact, new, I was pretty excited in 2003 when I heard that there was a new album slated for release. I had some apprehension being that they made a deal with Warner Bro's but whatever, they hadn't let me down yet. Finally the first single, Fall Back Down, was released. It wasn't a terrible song..but as the leading single it left something to be desired. I still held onto hope that the album would be good. It wasn't. I tried to give it a chance, I wanted to like it but I just couldn't. It wasn't a Rancid album, it was an album from a Rancid cover band. Some band was attempting to sound like rancid but without the energy. This is also how I feel about the subsequent 2 albums since 2003. I haven't given up but as of right now; Rancid post 2000, Meh.
The first time I had Kettle Brand Sriracha chips, this past fall, I was really impressed. Lots of flavour, just the right amount of heat, damn tasty. Suffice to say, I was really looking forward to today's review. This afternoon I cracked the bag, picked out what looked like the most flavourful chip, went in for the snatch then straight to taste town. It was good, but not as good as I had remembered. The heat is slightly delayed with Kettle Brand Sriracha chips. When it hits, you get the unmistakable sriracha flavour. The heat is not overpowering, which is what I look for in a spicy chip. The chips are standard kettle cooked; crunchy and a tad greasy. All in all the ingredients to make a classic are there. My only gripe is that the ratio is off, there isn't enough seasoning. I'm not asking for Rave quantities of seasoning, but there's a bit too much greasy potato and not enough sriracha. I without a doubt recommend these chips to anyone into medium to hot chips, I just really wanted my recommendation to be more enthusiastic.
Stay hydrated,
Marc
